Brandon and Lottie, from the UK, married at their family’s home in Spain. The wedding featured a piñata in the shape of a wedding cake, a best woman, a Harley Davidson and wedding ‘merch’ for their guests to collect. They handcrafted almost everything including 100 macramé chairs backs and the ceremony arch and all the faux flower arrangements. Oh, and the night ended the night with a bunch of fully dressed guests in the pool – doesn’t get more rock ‘n’ roll than that!
“We wanted our wedding to be a celebration everything we love, rather than a traditional old-fashioned wedding”, Lottie wrote. “It’s about us and an excuse to get our families together to party in the sun.”
Their ceremony began with both mums walking down the aisle hand-in-hand to symbolise the joining of their families. They sat their families on the opposite sides to tradition so that they were facing their person and could see their face during the ceremony, rather than the backs of their head. Lottie walked down the aisle to a live string quartet playing Dying in LA by Panic! at the Disco and they exited to This Will Be by Natalie Cole as the groomsmen fired confetti cannons in the background.
The reception party kicked off with their first dance to Follow You by Bring Me the Horizon followed by a dance for the entire wedding party to Holiday by KSI. Another unique decision they made was that the groom has a ‘best woman’ rather than a best man. He explained, “If Danielle was my brother, there would be no doubt about it as we are so close. If you ever want a great best man, choose a best woman! The stag, the organisation, the speech, everything was perfect and she hit the nail on the head with every decision she made.”
Planning an abroad wedding without a wedding planner did have its challenges. They had to consider logistics not only for their wedding day but also for their guests in the lead-up to the event. Despite these hurdles, they found creative ways to incorporate loved ones who couldn’t attend, like Brandon wearing his grandad’s cufflinks and the best woman making a surprise second guestbook which included the people who couldn’t make it.
“The highlight of wedding planning was going to The Eclectic Wedding Extravaganza wedding fair in Birmingham, it gave us plenty of ideas”, the bride concluded. “We loved having loads of ideas and not being afraid to do them, our family are so supportive and helped us with all of our visions even if they were a little crazy at times! Our wedding was an opportunity to express ourselves. It was so special, spending that time together under one roof as two families coming together in our favourite place.”
