Christina and Brian knew they wanted a romantic and timeless wedding that reflected Washington, DC, where their love story began. They fell in love with DAR Constitutional Memorial Hall immediately and chose it as their venue, just down the street from the White House with a spectacular view of the Washington Monument that reminded them of Brian’s proposal. As lifelong readers, they also couldn’t resist the venue’s historic library, where they hosted their cocktail hour. Inspired by spring and summer in DC, they leaned into their whimsical garden style for their big day and dove headfirst into abundant pink and white florals, with butterflies appearing among the blooms on their floral cart escort card stand and on their cake. Their love of pink showed up everywhere, from the tablecloths to the bridesmaids’ dresses. The botanical appliqués on Christina’s lace and tulle ballgown completed the floral feel.

Christina and Brian met as undergraduate students at Georgetown University and began dating early in their freshman year. After ten years together, which included four years at college, three years of law school for both Christina and Brian, and several stressful months spent studying for and passing the bar, they knew it was time to take the next step- once they were finally done being students! Brian designed a custom ring (with a little bit of input from Christina…) and secretly arranged for a proposal photographer to be there when he popped the question in Constitution Gardens, in front of the Washington Monument, on a sunny October afternoon. Brian lured Christina away from a busy day at work by telling her that family friends were in town and wanted to see some of the sights in DC. While Christina had her back turned to look at the Washington Monument, Brian got down on one knee, and the rest is history! After Christina said yes, and with many happy tears, Christina and Brian FaceTimed their family and friends to share the exciting news. The couple celebrated that night at Georgia Brown’s, one of their favorite restaurants in DC, where they have spent every Valentine’s Day. Several months later, Christina and Brian’s families surprised them with an engagement party at Top of the Town, where they celebrated surrounded by their loved ones.

Christina knew she wanted a fairy tale dress (with the biggest skirt possible!) and started the search in DC, but it wasn’t until she was home visiting her family that at a local bridal boutique, Jessica Haley, she found the one. It is paired with the most perfect butterfly-adorned shoes from Bella Belle Shoes and a sparkling cathedral-length Toni Federici veil.

Some of Christina’s VIPs wore matching blush tulle dresses which were the perfect complement to the whimsical feeling of the day.

The Groom wore a custom suit by Tom James Company with an off-white shawl collar jacket to contrast his groomsmen’s classic black tuxedos. Brian is no stranger to accessorizing, often wearing unique flare with any outfit. Christina marked the special occasion with a classic pair of Montblanc cufflinks as a gift to Brian.

Custom cocktails at the oversized bar were available on the terrace to guests throughout the dinner service. Christina’s signature cocktail was a glittering purple gin and tonic topped with cherry blossoms, and Brian’s coffee old fashioned was guaranteed to keep you on the dance floor. As avid foodies, it was important to Christina and Brian that the food be delicious! They chose miniature versions of some of their favorite snacks for cocktail hour, including chicken and waffle bites and pimento biscuits. Cocktail hour was held in the library, where hors d’oeuvres were passed among the bookcases, and guests could enjoy their beverages sitting at the reading tables. After the seasonal three-course dinner, guests could enjoy some of the couple’s favorite treats, including individual cookies and milk, while waiting for the cake to be passed.

After several cake tastings- one of the highlights of wedding planning for the couple- Christina and Brian chose an almond cake with caramelized hazelnuts and chocolate cake with cookies and cream buttercream for their guests to enjoy. A playful three-tier cake covered in blooms and fluttering butterflies was a focal point of the reception design. Framed by a bountiful floral moment.
