A Serene Monochromatic Wedding at Nizuc Resort and Spa

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]I chose white, monochromatic flowers to only heighten the atmosphere and make the scene more romantic but still just as serene. [/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]I was so excited to get married at Nizuc because I loved the stone terrace our ceremony took place on, and the beautiful water feature that would be the backdrop of our vows. There is a serenity to Nizuc’s architecture that, looking back, was perfectly complementary to the very profound sense of peace Kagen brought into my life. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]About two years after we started dating, Kagen and I took a trip to Santa Barbara. I love horseback riding whenever we go on a trip, so we spent one morning riding in the Santa Ynez mountains. When we got to the top of the ridge, we stopped to stretch our legs and Kagen said he wanted a picture of me looking out…when I turned back around he was on one knee. He proceeded to then make a very good case for our life together, so in spite of the fact that he chose to propose while I was wearing jeans and converse, I said yes![/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

I went to what felt like a million bridal appointments and tried on more dresses than I could count. While there were so many beautiful gowns, none really took my breath away until I stepped into the all sequin dress by Berta. It was immediately “the one.” I loved that it was pure glamour from head to toe and while it was clearly a wedding dress, I had never seen anything like it. I also felt like all the sparkles screamed “party” and “fun,” which was perfect for big destination bash we were throwing.

[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]Kagen looked like a real dimepiece in a sleek Ted Baker tuxedo, Gucci dress shoes, and a new timepiece I gave him as a wedding gift.

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”] I was also blown away by Nizuc’s chef and wait staff, who served everyone an absolutely delicious and hot meal, with each course served all at once. The quality of the cocktail and food was mind-blowing.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]I loved not having a traditional arch but instead sculptural florals around us as we said our vows. I thought Ana, our florist, created such a striking and artful ceremony site and I was thrilled with how it came together.
When we greeted our guests for cocktail hour and I looked out over the dramatic long tablescape, I was truly floored to see my vision come to life. The design Emmily created was so perfectly executed, from the low florals that created a really beautiful sense of movement across the table to the beautiful napkins she brought in from Utah. Everything detail felt extremely polished, thoughtful, and artfully done.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]After dinner, we did a champagne tower, cake cutting, and then proceeded to dancing. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]My brother-in-law, Wyatt, married us and gave the most thoughtful, moving speech as our officiant that was incredibly personal. I can’t express enough how grateful I am to have been married by someone we deeply love, who knows us, and who put so much thought and care into making his remarks unique and special to us. Kagen and I read personal vows to each other, and I think we were both really blown away with how special it felt to follow up Wyatt’s remarks with thoughtful vows. If I have any advice to brides, it is to choose your officiant wisely and put a lot of effort into your vows. Both of those things made a hugely positive impact on our day.

After the ceremony, we had cocktails on Nizuc’s Terra Nostra deck, which overlooks a really beautiful lagoon and is just the most romantic, jaw-dropping view. When we greeted our guests for cocktail hour and I looked out over the dramatic long tablescape, I was truly floored to see my vision come to life. I was also blown away by Nizuc’s chef and wait staff, who served everyone an absolutely delicious and hot meal, with each course served all at once. The quality of the cocktail and food was mind-blowing.

During dinner, we had four speeches from our friends and each one was incredibly thoughtful and engaging. We were unbelievably moved. After dinner, we did a champagne tower, cake cutting, and then proceeded to dancing. One last minute add on we decided on was to have live dancers perform about an hour into the party. I can’t recommend enough having dancers or some form of live entertainment for guests when they aren’t expecting it. It really livens up the party and made everyone’s experience super engaging and memorable.

The last song of the night was “Mastermind” by Taylor Swift, and just as it began to play soft warm rain started falling. It was truly the most surreal, magical moment. All our friends were still on the dance floor and everyone danced in the rain together as the heavens and T Swift blessed our union. It was utterly divine and perfect.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]My biggest piece of advice for brides is to hire both a planner and a designer, and trust them and their guidance. There were so many pieces of advice that Anastasia and Emmily gave me as we planned the wedding together, and I really leaned on their expertise and was grateful to work with experts who could help me execute my vision but also guide me off the ledge of some of my (looking back) terrible ideas. ;)[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]In lieu of a traditional wedding brunch, we opted to have a pool party instead and this could not have been a better decision. We had the best time continuing the party the next day with a really upbeat pool party, and it ended the celebration on a super lively, fun note. We also had a live saxophonist accompany the DJ for an hour of the pool party, and this ended up being a major hit with our guests. I can’t recommend live entertainment enough as a surprise for guests; it keeps the energy up at each event and I think is a marginal investment in the wedding budget that provides really outsized returns in terms of guest experience.[/field]
