Honeymoon Travel Guide: W Algarve

Looking for a luxurious post-wedding escape without the jet lag or long flight-time? Look no further than one of W Hotels’ newest property, making a splash on the Algarve Coast.

Perfectly entwined with the Algarve’s striking natural scenery and rich Portuguese history, W Algarve has everything you’d expect from W Hotel. The hotel has a striking, modern design with colourful, vibrant interiors, a gorgeous split-level infinity WET Deck pool, a luxurious indoor/outdoor spa and fantastic food and drink options.

The destination’s mesmerising curved Benagil caves inspired the flowing design of the hotel’s interior spaces and the colour palette of blues, aquamarines and turquoise nod to the azure sky and surrounding Atlantic Ocean.

Getting There

W Algarve is a 45-minute drive from Faro Airport. Flights from London take around 3 hours. You can also fly direct from Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Belfast.

Stay

With 134-guestrooms and 83 residences, the ultra-chic rooms embrace what they describe as clean maximalism. With both natural hues and materials and vibrant colours, the rooms are peppered with custom-made furnishings and intricate local touches (including a sardine-cushion in each room!) The dramatic backlit headboards were designed in a nod to nearby churches and mosaics are made from authentic Algarve ceramic tiles. All guestrooms have a large private balcony and the ten WOW suites feature rooftop terraces with endless coastal views.

Eat

Market Kitchen serves regional and international cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has been designed with a neighbourhood ambience, taking décor inspiration from local markets.

Another option for dinner is Paper Moon, serving Italian dishes, which sits atop the hotel with panoramic views, perfect for catching the sunset. You can then wrap up the night at the W Lounge with nightly beats from the DJs and creative cocktails.

Do

WET Deck
The W brand’s signature take on the poolside scene, WET Deck offers guests a stylish space to soak up the sun. Laid back cabanas surround the curved edges of the cascading pools that mimic the coastline, with a roster of international and regional DJs playing over the weekends. There is also a great gym with classes you can take part in ranging from high-intensity to relaxing at sunrise yoga.

AWAY® Spa
The spacious 13,000 square foot AWAY® Spa has six treatment rooms (including one couple’s room), a hair salon, a mani & pedi bar, facial LED masks treatments, as well as Express Booths for pre-dinner touch-ups. The spa also incorporates a wet area with a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and cold plunge pool in covered outdoor relaxation area.

Our Highlights

We were lucky enough to visit W Algarve for ourselves and these were some of favourite things:

♥ The locally made iridescent tiles used on the balconies (making for the perfect photo backdrop!)

♥ The raw and sushi bar at Market Kitchen.

♥ The plentiful gluten-free options and the fact that all the cocktails could be made alcohol-free. The bartender at Paper Moon even made us a custom non-alcoholic cocktail based on my favourite flavours!

♥ The local, private beach which is surrounded by a dramatic, jagged cliffside and has lounge chairs and local bar.

♥ The jacuzzi, steam room and sauna which we were able to enjoy before and after our spa treatments.

♥ Unlike many hotel gyms, the one at W had a great selection of free weights, including benches, barbells and plates which we loved using during our stay.
