A Maui Destination Wedding With Modern Garden Vibes

Various hues of green and ivory filled the day.

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]Our vision was to create a fresh, modern, approachable yet elevated and timeless wedding. We always knew we wanted to get married in Hawaii, but wanted to make it unique by using mostly modern garden blooms with a touch of white anthurium as an ode to the island. We used only white and cream florals and incorporated the green hues in our table settings and reception decor. We brought in wood and cane elements to help with the different textures to create the perfect natural, yet elevated look. [/field]
[field title=”Proposal Story”]

Manuel and I met through our sisters at a University of California, Berkeley football game in 2013. In 2019, Manuel and I took a trip down the coast to The Post Ranch Inn for a weekend getaway. We arrived at the resort in the afternoon and decided to go for a stroll along the grounds before heading to dinner. We walked up to one of the lookout points on the property and decided to walk a bit further down the hill to take in the views of the Pacific Ocean. As we were walking, I began to notice flower petals on the ground and immediately stopped Manuel to say that we needed to turn around because this was clearly set up for someone and I didn’t want us to ruin it. He was adamant that we keep going and when I took a closer look I noticed more flowers and champagne in the distance. It began to hit me that this could be the moment and I looked back at him and asked, “Is this for me?” He giggled and nodded his head yes. It was in that moment that he took my hands and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes, it was such an incredible moment!

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]

I wore a dress and veil designed by Monique Lhuillier. When dress shopping, I knew I wanted something traditional, yet different. The Baldwin gown fit that vision completely. I made it a bit shorter in the front, with the traditional length in the back and brought in some color with the veil. I wanted something that would pop on the grass when walking down the aisle. I wore Heller Jewelers earrings that were gifted to me by my husband, and my moms diamond bracelet. The dress and veil spoke for themselves and for that reason I did not want to wear much jewelry, I thought the simpler, the better.

[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]We had the girls wear ivory dresses. They were allowed to pick their own style.[/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]

Manuel wore a Tom Ford ivory suit with brown Christian Louboutin loafers. The guys wore tan suits. We thought our vision would look super clean if everyone was in ivory/cream hues.

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]We have a thing for tequila, so naturally, served a spicy skinny margarita as one of our signature cocktails! Tray passed mini ahi cones (think if ahi poke were served as an ice cream cone), jicama caesar salad rolls and kalua pork spring rolls were enjoyed during cocktail hour. Guests were served a plated choice of entree: grilled local catch served over lobster fried rice or grilled New York steak with a chimichurri drizzle served with au gratin potatoes.[/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Modern garden blooms with a touch or white anthurium as an ode to the island.[/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]In lieu of a wedding cake, we had a shot of tequila. Of curse we poured all of our guests a shot to have with us as well. We also served malasadas, a Portuguese fried pastry, for dessert. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Our family and friends walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of “What A Wonderful World” by Thomas Law and I walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of “Your Song” by Cameron Bedell. We love Elton John![/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]My mom wore my grandmother’s pearls while getting ready for the wedding. She passed away a couple of years ago and we knew she was there in spirit, but wanted to bring something of hers with us to Hawaii.[/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]Some advice for couples planning their wedding: I would say work with people who make the process of planning fun, simple and easy. It gets overwhelming at times, but knowing you have an amazing team behind you that you can trust is so important. Our planner was truly incredible. She did everything and never missed a beat. If I was overwhelmed, she would make me feel at ease. Every vendor we chose was just as amazing and if you can surround yourself with people that bring good energy and understand your vision you will be in good hands.

It’s also very easy to get caught up in the planning process, but try and take in every moment. The wedding day goes by so quickly and if you can appreciate the little moments even on the hard days of planning you will not regret it. Everything will turn out the way it is supposed to![/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #3″]At the end of the night, Manuel and I jumped into the pool to cool down and it was so much fun! I recommend having all your friends jump in as well![/field]
