From the Bride…Matt and I met 7 years ago at work. We still work together! I am from the Palm Springs area and the older I get the more I love the desert. I knew I wanted to get married in my hometown. I am originally from Bosnia, and have a ton of Bosnian family/friends in the desert. This was a great way to include everyone. I also had some family fly all the way from Bosnia to be there so it felt that much more special to us to share this day with all of our loved ones in such a beautiful place with great weather. We live in San Francisco and Matt is from the Bay Area, so it was close enough for his family/friends as well. We fell in love with the Polo Grounds and didn’t see any other venues after that.

Our wedding felt special because Matt’s birthday was the very next day and it was also Easter weekend. Spring was in the air and this is by far my favorite time of the year. The weather is perfect and the sunsets and backdrops of the desert are really majestic. I wanted to make sure that it felt like Spring (My name also means Spring) so I felt like I needed to pay tribute to the season! I wanted to make sure that this was reflected in our décor. I wanted the colors to be bright and blush pinks mixed with white and very lush greens. I love this look. The floral arrangements were everything I wanted. I also wanted to add pops of color and little orange kumquats on everyone’s place setting were perfect for this. I wanted it to be romantic but not overly feminine. Ceremony and reception were both bright and outdoors. We also included some of our own décor with hung lanterns. Adding little touches like signature cocktails and a seating area for guests just made it more personal and a reflection of our style. Both Matt and I love to eat well, and we really feel like the caterer knocked it out of the park!

We used some handmade crochet table cloths that my grandma made (Both of my grandmas passed away and we wanted it to feel like they were a part of this special day.) My aunt also brought back a ton of Rakija (a local Bosnian fruit brandy) and we used that as guest favors for everyone. The music was a blend of Bosnian traditional and pop music along with the American dance music everyone loves. Our DJ did an incredible job blending all of that! It’s not easy with such a diverse group, but we feel like the dance floor was packed the whole night. Music was really important to us. Matt is Jewish so we also had a breaking of the glass ceremony and a chuppah. What I love most about us is that we come from very different backgrounds, cultures and upbringings and I think it’s very special that we all respect one another and come together especially this day in age, when everyone seems to feel so separated from other religions and beliefs.

We just wanted the guests to have a blast and relax. Our ceremony was non-traditional and we wrote our own vows. This was the best part of the day. I still read them sometime and can’t help but feel so grateful. The whole day just felt perfect, it was filled with emotion and tears of joy. The moon came out for our last dance, I really felt like it was a real life dream.
