This Wedding’s Design Was Inspired by Its Coastal Location!

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”Wedding Colors”]From the bride:
Inspired by the ocean, our color scheme was blues and accents of greens. We knew we wanted to highlight blues given the Bel Air Bay Club ocean view setting.[/field]
[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]From the bride:
Our vision was an elevated beach wedding – we have both always loved the beach growing up and together as a couple, our favorite memories are ones spent together by the ocean. Also, AJ’s family is from the east coast and having a venue with an ocean view and a sunset over the water especially for those traveling, some to California for the first time, made BABC the perfect spot. While the beach is our happy place and typically casual, AJ and I love getting dressed up and we knew we wanted our wedding day to be black tie attire. We realized during the design process that pearls, both natural and elegant and from the sea, served as the perfect accent for our wedding. Our planner, Natalie Good, made our elevated beach wedding dream come true with her creativity of incorporating oyster shells with pearls for the place-cards, pearls in a glass box for the table markers, and the stunning escort board, which held seat assignments and the phrase, “the world is your oyster, it is up to you to find the pearls” – and your seat! A Good Affair did a tremendous job from start to finish in the design process – their attention to detail is unmatched and they made us feel so supported and at ease because truly everything they create is beautiful. [field title=”Proposal Story”]From the bride:
AJ and I met at Boston College our freshman year and were great friends all throughout college. After graduation, we both moved to NYC where AJ realized that perhaps there was something more than just friendship possible for us. He asked me on our first date in September of 2017 and we have been together ever since – AJ is still the best friend I have ever had! AJ proposed in July of 2020 in the midst of Covid lockdowns while we were living at my dad’s house in Manhattan Beach. One night, AJ and I took a walk on The Strand, the Manhattan Beach boardwalk along the ocean, to my old childhood home and AJ asked me to marry him in the garden. [/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]From the bride:
To begin the search, I visited NWLA Bridal shop in Santa Monica with my mom and dad and the owner, Nadia Williams, had a feeling that the Verona gown by Mira Zwillinger was going to be the perfect dress for me – it was the first wedding dress I ever tried on. I loved the handmaid lace flowers, intricate details, and delicate fabric, but never thought I was going to pick the first dress I tried on. After going to 7 other shops and trying on 70+ dresses, I found myself looking back at my pictures in the Mira gown. If I was going to continue to think about this dress, I knew that this must be the one! I am still so happy about my choice and have to thank Nadia – she is so genuine and made the experience the best place we visited- she has a gift, she knew right away![/field]
[field title=”Bridesmaid Dresses”]From the bride:
The bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo chiffon dresses and each wore a unique style. The blue dress color served as an accent color throughout the entire wedding, with the same color ribbon for the bride’s and bridesmaid’s bouquets, ribbon on the church programs, and the bow on the invitation. I gifted them pearl bracelets to wear to express my gratitude and as a keepsake to remember the day. [/field]
[field title=”Groomsman Attire”]From the bride:
AJ wore a Giorgio Armani shawl tuxedo with Christian Louboutin dandelion tassel flat tuxedo shoes. The groomsmen wore peak tuxedos and all wore mother of pearl cufflinks. [/field]

[section title=”The Details”]
[field title=”Food & Drink”]From the bride:
Signature cocktails of a whiskey and passionfruit bramble for the groom and a French 75 for the bride. Passed hors d’oeuvres of beef wellingtons, avocado and crab toast points, potato and caviar, and the groom also insisted we have his favorite, pigs in a blanket, which were a crowd favorite! A choice of filet mignon or miso-soy sea bass for the main – all so delicious![/field]
[field title=”Florals & Decor”]From the bride:
Blush pinks and whites with roses, dahlias, accents of blue delphiniums. We had a combination of long tables and rounds with varying types of sized arrangements – the long tables with assorted lows and rounds with larger arrangements. We also had a variety of different tablecloths – ranging from blue and white suede to a pattern that pulled in all the blues and greens. One of our favorite floral displays was a breathtaking fountain with beautiful roses that was a total showstopper. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]From the bride:
The cake was one of my favorite details – lace intricate flower details identical to my dress adorned the three tiers – it was stunning! The inside was Neapolitan flavor, white cake with fresh strawberry buttercream and chocolate buttercream. [/field]
[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]From the bride:
We had a traditional church wedding at St. Monica’s, but it was important for us to have the music be modern and meaningful to us. Our bridal party walked down the aisle to “In My Life” by the Beatles and I walked down the aisle with my dad to “This Guy’s in Love with You” by Burt Bacharach – both played by the organ and instrumental. “This Guy’s in Love with You” was the perfect reminder for me as I walked down the aisle that I was marrying the man I love who was waiting for me! In addition to us both growing up Catholic, Boston College, where we met, is a Catholic Jesuit school. “Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything,” was a phrase from a Jesuit prayer that we incorporated into the mass. We also had “Hallelujah” played in the Jeff Buckley version and we walked out to “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love).” Our mass was 45 minutes – it can be done! We wanted the sacred, special, sentimental ceremony AND the great party. Our first dance was to “Someone Like You” by Van Morrison. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #1″]From the bride:
With 180 people attending the wedding, I knew I wanted to have a special moment with each person who made the effort to be there, but it was going to be hard. To ensure I did, I wrote a handwritten note to each guest that was on their seat waiting for them when they got to their table. I also wanted to incorporate my love of oil painting, so the front of the note had a picture I painted standing in Palisades Park looking at Bel Air Bay Club in the distance. AJ and I spend a lot of time in this park both walking and enjoying the sunset and it has a special meaning for us still to this day. [/field]
[field title=”Special Detail #2″]From the bride:
Our cocktail hour was magical – on the green lawn overlooking the ocean. We didn’t want it to end! We kicked it off by the two of us pouring a champagne tower for all to gather and toasting with both sets of our parents – one of our favorite moments of the day. We had a piano and saxophone duo for music – AJ played the saxophone growing up and we thought that would be a fun and meaningful touch. To kick off the reception, we had a short dance set before we sat down for dinner and toasts to “get this party started”- we loved our band and this gave a great preview of the best night of dancing of our life![/field]
