Marrying the Charm of the English Countryside With a Modern, Organic Twist

[section title=”The Planning”]
[field title=”The Inspiration”]

Inspired by the transition from the warmth of summer to the crisp embrace of early fall, this styled shoot beautifully marries the charm of the English countryside with a modern, organic twist. Picture sprawling gardens and a stone manor adorned with the rich hues of late summer flowers giving way to the subtle, earthy tones of fall. Through the lens of medium format film photography, we hoped to capture the essence of this seasonal shift, infusing the images with depth and the nostalgic quality that only film can bring. Not quite according to plan, the weather decided to shift at the last minute and the rain that was supposed to hold off until late evening arrived just as we started setting the table. Nancy, lead planner of Functions Pittsburgh, ended up tearing down and re-setting the tablescape three times over the course of the afternoon. Everyone came together & helped the shoot to continue as planned – as they say, teamwork makes the dreamwork! Ashley and her team from Finch & the Sprout were also putting together the floral arch in the pouring rain, and at one point they had to physically hold up the arch because of intense wind gusts threatening to knock it down. It was truly inspiring to be surrounded by so many hardworking, dedicated women. This is why I believe that hiring the right vendor team for your wedding is so incredibly important. No matter the weather or whatever life throws your way, you want to be confident that your vendors will be a true team, working together to make your dreams a reality.

[field title=”The Venue”]Tucked away in East Pittsburgh is an unexpected wedding venue that instantly transports you back to another time and place. Hartwood Acres Mansion is a beautiful, sprawling stone estate with luscious gardens and grounds, reminiscent of an old English estate. We love the stonework and arches, cobblestones and trailing vines. It’s truly a magical place to hold a wedding day celebration.[/field]

[field title=”Wedding Gown”]Gown by Andria Bird. As soon as Sonia tried on this dress at her fitting, we knew it was the one. There was something so effortless about it – it exuded old world glam mixed with a modern flair. The floral elements in the bodice paired so well with the English garden theme that we had in mind. Match made in heaven![/field]

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Ashley of Finch and the Sprout designed cascading arrangements of dusky pink, mustard yellow, cream, and wine-colored blooms that spilled from lime-washed ceramic vases. The bride’s bouquet and table arrangements harmonize with the trailing vines embroidered on the tablecloth, creating an effortless look that is at once modern and timeless. Ashley and her team also designed the stunning floral arch that acted as a centerpiece for the day.

It all combines to create an atmosphere that perfectly complements the English countryside setting and enhances the mood of the rainy, early autumn weather. [/field]
[field title=”Favorite Design Element”]Probably a tie between that magical floral arch and the flowers on the cake made entirely out of sugar![/field]
[field title=”Tips To Pull Off The Look”]Start by choosing a venue with natural charm, like a countryside estate or a vineyard, to provide the perfect backdrop. Hiring a planner who knows how to combine textures and patterns in a playful way is a great place to start, too.

When it comes to florals, work with a talented florist who understands your vision for organic, wildflower-inspired arrangements. Incorporate contrasting elements like modern candlesticks to keep things interesting. For the table setting, consider embroidered linens and don’t be afraid to mix patterns and colors.

For your dress, think ethereal and romantic – perhaps a flowing gown with delicate lace sleeves or floral appliques. Don’t forget about the smaller details like vintage-inspired jewelry and a loose, tousled updo to complete the look.

Lastly, infuse your own personalities into the day. Whether it’s through handwritten vows, unique favors, or a special playlist, these personal touches will make your wedding day truly unforgettable, just like this dreamy English countryside-inspired affair.[/field]
