A Summer North Carolina Wedding With Fun Pops Of Watermelon

Summer in North Carolina simply begs for a punch of color. We started with a foundation of classic blues and greens and added coral/watermelon details to spice things up!

[field title=”Design / Vibe / Vision”]The overall vibe was classic and elegant. Peyton and Danny wanted to embrace classic wedding traditions in a way that was fresh, fun, and inviting. With so many of their guests traveling down to the southeast for the wedding, it was important to share a bit of North Carolina with everyone, so authentic Southern hospitality was at the forefront of every decision. We developed several custom patterns in different colorways that were used throughout the weekend events including the bridal luncheon, rehearsal dinner, welcome party, and wedding day festivities. The patterns included stripes and southern magnolia blossoms and foliage. [/field]

Peyton chose a Pronovias gown with an asymmetrical strapless neckline and a classic mermaid silhouette. She paired her dress with blue Loeffler Randall pleated bow heels.

Following the outdoor ceremony in Reyonlda Gardens, guests were transported across town to Forsyth Country Club, where they were greeted at cocktail hour with tray-passed beverages and hors d’oeuvres, including ahi tuna poke, grilled artichoke and tomato bruschetta, and crispy fried oysters. Under the tent, guests were served an elegant summer harvest salad with marinated vegetables on crisp greens and lemon herb vinaigrette and a duet of grilled filet and shrimp scampi buerre blanc with seasonal vegetables and potato pave. Later that evening, as everyone worked up an appetite again on the dance floor, the club tray-passed mini fried chicken biscuits and cones of truffle fries with shaved parmesan.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Flowers for the wedding included white larkspur, garden roses, peonies, stock, and ranunculus, with both blue and white varieties of delphinium and hydrangea. To punch up the color, we used coral godetia, coral charm peonies, red bouvardia and peachy coral spray roses. [/field]
[field title=”Wedding Cake”]

Danielle Kattan created a beautiful four-tier cake that incorporated some of the stripes for our patterns used throughout the invitation suite and paper details. To ensure the cake survived the summer heat or humidity and could still be placed under the sailcloth tent before sunset, not only was fondant icing a must, but we also schemed to use a faux cake, with the perfectly sized segment of real cake for Peyton and Danny to cut and enjoy as guests watched on. Everyone else was served fresh cake from the kitchen, and none the wiser. Two different flavor profiles were offered: (1) Vanilla and chocolate flavors filled with whisky southern caramel and Madagascar vanilla buttercream finished up with a swirly combination of delicious southern caramel sauce and more buttercream, and (2) lemon zest with raspberry filling.
