How to use the 2023 Pantone Color of the Year in your wedding

Viva Magenta is the 2023 Pantone Color of the Year and this bold hue is inspiring couples to make a statement in their weddings. (Maximalism is a major trend this year, after all.) Designer Alice & Apricot and our new guide member Black House Blooms set out to show us how it’s done with this luxe editorial captured by Sami Kathryn Photography at the Thompson Dallas… three bridal looks included!

Viva Magenta: The Pantone Color of The Year

The team tells us, Magenta can be a difficult color to photograph and also find compliments to, but we were determined to create a scene where pinks were the queen and with a vibe that still felt lush and luxurious… Drama and color was the theme of the head table designed by Alice and Apricot. By incorporating the structure from the ceremony we were able to have a canopy of pink to match the flowers in the lush and cascading table runner down the center. A teal velvet tablecloth from BBJ Linens brought the perfect touch of blue to the tablescape. It also helped emphasize the shimmering iridescence of the table chargers and mixed colored glassware from Top Tier. Eclectic plates from Anthropolgie brought all the colors together into an edgy composition. Gold tipped silverware tied in the gold of the velvet chairs and romantic light came from modern ribbed votives and magenta candlesticks.

The Venue

The Thompson Hotel in downtown Dallas was the perfect mix of modern and edgy for the shoot. Skyscraper backdrops on the rooftops, a modern ballroom with chandeliers and large windows overlooking the city, and Catbird, their speakeasy style bar all make it a dreamy spot to host a wedding.

The Ceremony

For the ceremony, florist Black House Blooms wanted to create a garden atmosphere with an aisle liner of light floral that faded into a backdrop of lush, modern pinks. A simple black structure held the swirling raspberry, mauve, magenta, and fuchsia flowers above the couple, while coordinating ground pieces helped frame the scene and create an even more eye-catching backdrop. Gold backed, blush, velvet chairs from Marquee Event Rentals brought a metallic but feminine twist to the guests’ seats. A more petite, asymmetrical bouquet mimicked the style of the arch without taking away from it.

Bridal Fashion

There were three glamorous looks to love to complement the Pantone Color of the Year Viva Magenta, including a Rivini by Rita Vinieris fitted corset dress with full ball gown skirt and attached puff sleeves. The second look featured a fitted Berta Privée gown with a mermaid silhouette. But our favorite look has to be the after party dress, a cropped two-piece by Rivini by Rita Vinieris (also from Iconic Bride) with a mock neck, long sleeve crop top, modern bow-back skirt, and tiny pearls adorning every inch of the piece. Her hair was swept back into a modern low pony highlighted by Jennifer Behr accessories and the magenta heels by Loeffler Randall were the perfect pop of pink behind the slit of the skirt!
