Rustic Mexican Wedding with a Vintage Twist

With a head full of Pinterest ideas, Cristina and David soon realised that a lot of what they wanted was hard to find in Mexico. So, they took their inspiration and mixed it with all the things they liked, creating an intimate garden wedding with a lot of DIY projects.

It’s the little details that make a wedding personal, and the couple created lots of little touches to infuse their day with. Cristina told us, “We made a tonne of things! Handcrafted lace tambourines, ribbon shakers that our guests waved when we exited the church, every single guest had a box with goodies at their seats, a little newspaper we designed and printed that had details about us, and we also had little potion bottles inspired in Harry Potter.”

As well as all the DIY, Cristina and David shunned a lot of traditional wedding inspiration, coming up with ideas that were unique, and playing by their own rules. Cristina explained, “The part of the planning process we loved the most was brainstorming. We always come up with crazy ideas, I think we could have gone wilder! I truly recommend that, it doesn’t matter how crazy it sounds, just do it. We toasted with beer, had waffles for dessert, my dress was 3 dresses in one, I wore a hat instead of a veil as well as pink boots, and we also got our wedding photos taken after the honeymoon so we could have a more relaxed vibe.”

Cristina’s dress was custom made, and she told us about the wedding dress struggles she encountered, and how she solved her problem, “Finding a wedding dress was SO hard, I found out through the process that I´m considered to be mid-sized, so every single dress on Pinterest didn’t looked quite the same when I tried them on. This was a problem, so I met with a local designer and she made my dream dress, understanding exactly what I wanted, with comfort and style in mind. The dress was a three-in-one, creating three different looks and I loved it! At the end of the process, I came up with the idea of wearing a bow instead of a veil and she also made it happen.”

Cristina advises shopping around when searching for vendors and getting the right price for things, “I would highly recommend getting a lot of quotations and references, ask your friends, do research in Facebook groups, don´t ever go with the first option, you can always find it at a better price.” She also added, “If you have “crazy” ideas, don’t overthink it, if it makes YOU happy, just go for it, at the end of the day it is your celebration and it should be a reflect of your vibes and love.”
