Relaxed Rustic Wedding inspired by a Welsh Copper Mine

Kirrie and Siôn took inspiration from the stunning colours of an old copper mine, Parys Mountain on Anglesey, for their day. They had their bridesmaids and groomsmen choose their own outfits based on the colours from said mountain – resulting in a lovely mix of pink, copper, burnt orange, green, burgundy, silver, blue and black.

The couple didn’t want too much fuss and veered away from tradition, with Kirrie planning pink hair for the day, a black wedding cake and no top table, opting to sit with their bridesmaids and groomsmen instead.

The groom also ensured he acknowledged all the important women in his life, telling us, “During my groom’s speech I took the opportunity to thank all the significant women in my life starting from aunties and ending, of course, with my wife. I got them all to stand up when I called their name and asked everyone to applaud their influence on my life.”

Saving money on their £14,000 budget, they used a wedding website to hold the details about their day as well as distributing all the information that the guests would need via email. Kirrie explained, “It was a godsend. All the information about the day was in one place and all people needed to do was look at their phones. It was also able to send save the dates, send invitations, collect guest details, RSVPs, table plans… everything for a small cost. It was also a greener approach to sending out invitations.”

A spontaneous karaoke moment added some extra fun to the day, as the couple chose to play Ronan Keating’s When You Say Nothing At All as they signed the register. Kirrie told us, “All of our guests took this opportunity for a bit of karaoke and sang along very loud. So much fun!”

On the theme of singing, Siôn’s cousin added some Britain’s Got Talent magic, having appeared on the show in 2018. Kirrie told us, “He sang our favourite Welsh song, Tra Bo Dau by Plu. It was truly beautiful.”

As a project manager, Kirrie revelled in planning their wedding, and wanted to share her planning tips with us! She advises, “Ensure you have enough time to plan, create a realistic budget and stick to it. Try and pay everything before your wedding day so you are not stressed out and try and avoid taking out loans and using credit cards.”

“Absolutely use a wedding website to help you with everything, and be chilled and enjoy the planning process! Remember that not everything will go as planned but the most important thing is to enjoy yourself and remember why you are getting married in the first place.”
