After a ceremony for 100 at Hackney Town Hall, Prue and Nick’s reception was held walking distance away at Hackney Showroom at the Hackney Downs Studios. They loved the space as it was essentially a blank canvas which they could do whatever they wanted to. The day had a laid back, eclectic, and extremely East London vibe – so much so that the bride and groom got the bus between venues. In true London style, no-one batted an eyelid!
“The day reflected our love of food, plants, glitter and family”, said Prue. “We had lots of lights, lots of feasting food, lots of confetti and lots of laughing. It sounds cliché but we were inspired by each other. I love plants and greenery, Nordic design and LOTS of confetti while Nick loves food and cooking, disco and sustainability/recycling (all of our plates and bowls etc were recyclable palm leaf and we made sure that everything was recycled or repurposed after the day).”
“We made our own Sloe gin for the welcome cocktails, we made the seating plan and put together the confetti packets ourselves and my mum, who is an excellent cook, made jams, jellies and curds for the favours which we gave to everyone in a tote bag with our wedding logo on. We loved having a logo for our wedding, it really tied everything together. We were so lucky to have our friend Joe help us with the design and it was wonderful to have a symbol that represented us and carried throughout the whole ceremony and party.”
The bride opted for a striped dress from London designer Charlie Brear. “I knew I didn’t want a traditional dress and their separates range is outrageously beautiful”, she explained. “I chose the Apsley top and Catelin skirt from their London Collection. The top is an amazing, sheer, long sleeve, stripey number that I wore over a really simple bustier from Miss Selfridge. The skirt was just beautiful and made me look and feel seven foot tall – long, flowy and high-waisted and in the most amazing crepe silk. I loved the whole experience in Charlie Brear – I took my sister and another bridesmaid along to the first try on and they were so lovely.”
“There is literally nothing I would change about our wedding”, Prue concluded. “I was sad when it was over because it was so much fun. However if we were doing it all again I would avoid asking too many people for their opinion. It can be confusing and make you second guess decisions. We learnt it was best to go with your gut and choose suppliers you would want to have a beer with. Don’t listen to too much ‘advice’. If it feels good, lock it in.”
