From The Bride…David and I met while David was working in Australia. After a year of dating in Australia David’s company wanted him to move to Savannah, Georgia. We instantly fell in love with Savannah’s moss-draped oaks, beautiful squares and romantic riverfront.

As most of our guests were flying in from Australia and all corners of the United States we really wanted to share the same Southern hospitality that we had felt when we first moved to Savannah. It was important to us to make sure that all of our guests felt loved and included not only on our wedding day but throughout their entire stay. We looked for special ways to include our guests wherever we could so that by our wedding day everyone would feel like family. Throughout the weekend our guests were invited to join us for a low-country boil, a trolley tour of the Historic District and a riverboat cruise along the Savannah River.

When looking for a venue we could not go past the charming Whitefield Chapel. The quaint chapel surrounded by the beautiful grand oaks dripping in Spanish Moss perfectly captured the beauty of The South. Our catering company worked with us to come up with a menu consisting of local favorites including shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles and our baker sourced locally farmed, in-season produce to create the most beautiful cake. A month out from the wedding when details and timelines were bearing down we decided to take some time off from wedding plans for a Bourbon Bury. A Bourbon Bury is fun little Southern folklore that we had happened to stumble upon that says if you bury a bottle of bourbon, upside down, at the site of where you are to be married exactly a month from your wedding date then it won’t rain on your wedding day. On the day of your wedding you are meant to dig up the bourbon and share it with your bridal party in celebration.

Truly the highlight of the day was being surrounded by so many of our loved ones from near and far and being able to share such a special day with them. Digging up our bourbon after doing the bourbon bury the month previously and sharing it with our friends and family was just yet another fun way to include everyone in our day. Walking across the grounds to the place where we buried the bourbon with so many of dearest and their own significant others was one of the sweetest moments from the day.
