Happy November, all! We have such a sweet fall wedding for you, coming to us from bride Liz, owner of fine art print biz Print Club Ltd and her guy Graham, also an artist. Their DIY wedding at the super unique Cracker Factory in The Finger Lakes had thoughtful touches and unconventional elements, from the screen-printed details to the groom’s kilt (a nod to his Scottish heritage). And if you can’t tell, Tyler Holbein‘s photos are just dreamy, so why don’t we dive right in already?

Elizabeth tells it, My husband Graham and I are both artists and printmakers (I own an online fine art print business, Print Club ltd.) so we took great joy in creating many of the printed materials for the event including doing the letterpress printing for the invitations and silkscreen printing some of my hand-drawn designs onto all of the tablecloths. Graham’s McDougal family tartan had quite a punchy, warm red base so we went with a vibrant orange for many details and blue from the Scottish thistle that was also in my bouquet.

The gorgeous flowers came from Flowerwell, and were mostly local to Rochester, NY.

Their friend Elliott Bryce Foulkes did the typesetting + design of their invites, and they printed them at their local letterpress studio, Delta, in Sacramento.

Fun fact: These two were actually inspired by our ceremony decor photos when looking for creative ideas for their ceremony. Liz loved the idea of a backdrop feeling a little theatrical and artsy, and handpainted it in her studio. The colors were inspired by the venue and building itself!

The colors we ended up with were orangey-reds with some pops of blue. The scheme really came about as early as when I was designing my engagement ring. Kate Jones has a style called an Oneida Ring and you can let her know which stones/hues you want included in the design. Long with a rose-gold band, my ring has some blue, some creamy peaches and rusty red along with a single diamond and my birthstone, sapphire. From that point, those colors kept re-emerging and ended up playing out across many aspects of the decor and design.

And would you believe that our bride ordered her wedding gown online?!? She sent her measurements to Ange Etoiles and a couple months later it arrive from Belarus! She had the neckline taken up a bit at a local tailor (using fabric from the back of the overskirt) and it was perfect. The overskirt was even removable for the reception!

Kay, wondering about this incredible venue yet?! The deets: Amy and Brandon Phillips (founders of Miles + May Furniture Works) have been long-time friends of ours and we have visited them at the Cracker Factory building (which houses their furniture workshop and their own apartment) many times. They had always made their gorgeous second floor space available for concerts, exhibitions and functions but a few years ago they started hosting weddings and it has become an enormously popular venue. When Graham and I became engaged it turned out that we had both independently thought that it would be where we would want to marry when that time came and so it just became a matter of finding a date that Amy and Brandon could host us.

And aren’t these table linens such a fun way to show off the couples’ creative talents? Liz created all of the drawn images from sculptures and gardens they had visited during overseas trips. For the napkins, they went off of the geometric design from the invites and had little enamel pins for guests made, too.

We wanted the evening to feel like a big dinner party, so we set up two long tables and food was served family style along with Australian wines my dad has selected. Graham is Scottish and I’m Australian so between the bagpiper we had for the ceremony and our first dance being to a song from “Strictly Ballroom” I feel like we had both cultures accounted for!

Seen enough yet? Neither have we! Find more photos from this DIY wedding in our gallery:

Such a beautiful day, congrats, E + G!
