    The cakes, cookies, and other desserts in this bakebook are absolutely beautiful! I love the interactive nature of so many of these recipes - if you're having a kids' party, you can let them decorate their own desserts with edible chalk, edible paint, etc.

    I've made several recipes from the book (pictures on the blog!) and they're all gorgeous and delicious, but most of the ones I tried were really complicated. For me, it was worth all the effort though because I love decorating desserts like this.

    If you're a beginner, this is probably not for you - some of the recipes require easy-to-mess-up techniques. The recipes required a lot more experience with baking then what I was prepared for as a beginner.

    The photos were the most eye-catching thing about this book and it definitely enticed me to want to make everything she took a picture of!

    The directions seemed easily explanatory. I really loved how she had a section for recipes you can do with your children, like painting a cake and making edible cutouts. So awesome!

    Overall, a great bake book for bakers who already know the basics. I recommend it to those who are looking for a beautiful flare to the average cake, whether just for a surprise party or a church event.

    This cookbook is so delightful to look at. It’s full of colorful, playful designs and decorating ideas. I wish there weren’t so many recipes that use fondant, but that’s just my preference.

    All of the notes and asides are really helpful - I love all of the practical tips and ideas she includes. 0770435319 I can't remember the last time I gave a book a five-star review. This book was astonishing! Who knew there were such cake-decorating products as edible paper, chalk, varnish, glitter, markers, and paint with edible being the key word? Rosie Alyea knows, and she is a magician at using them in her kitchen creations.

    Besides developing and writing the recipes, the author wrote the text introducing each recipe and photographed almost every project in the book. The photography is colorful and well-lit, and the cupcakes, cakes, and cookies in the book are artfully styled.

    The recipes are well-formatted and easy to follow. I found the author's 'notes' included with each recipe to be helpful for someone like me who has never taken a cake decorating class. She gives ingredient options and tells why one ingredient will work better than a substitute for particular projects. There are chapters dedicated to how-to's for those of us who are inexperienced at baking and decorating these high-end projects. Ms. Alyea's warm feeling tone throughout the book testifies to her passion about creating, baking, and decorating high-quality, appealing treats for a variety of occasions.

    My favorite projects were the Pink Cherry Party Cupcakes (perfect for a bridal or baby shower or little girl's birthday party), Rainbows & Sprinkles Cake (perfect for a teen's birthday or a graduation party), Jumbo Frosted Animal Crackers (perfect for a birthday party or team celebration), Ice Cream Cone Cookie Pops (perfect for a summer picnic or baby's birthday party), and the Pastel Vanilla Birthday Cake (because I love the color scheme--mint green and rose pink). Other standout projects are the Menagerie Masquerade Cookies (fox, panda, and cat masks), Chocolate Root Beer Float Cake, Pastel Party Cake (loved the rose pink and teal frosting combo), Peppermint Dream Cake (the author cleverly put two peppermint candy canes together to create a heart pattern border around the lower edge of this cake), and the Gingery Gingerbread Cutout Cookies (because I adore the gingerbread man motif).

    I highly recommend this book for bakers interested in improving their skills and for people who want to have a great collection of cakes and goodies for all occasions at their fingertips.

    Nothing wrong with that. 0770435319 I have a major sweet tooth, and books with pretty desserts are one of my weaknesses. Still, I've seen a lot of dessert cookbooks, so I admit I wondered if this one could stand out. Well, it did!

    This book was basically filled with sparkles, sprinkles, and sunshine. Many of the recipes were perfect for kids to either help make or help decorate, and it even had a recipe for ICED ANIMAL CRACKER COOKIES. My childhood self was jumping up and down in glee.

    Can I just talk about the chalkboard cookies? My word, that is BRILLIANT. The Coney Island Cheesecake had me drooling, and the colorful cake layers and interiors of the many cake recipes made me want to run up to the store and snatch all the ingredients to make them!

    Unfortunately, so far I've only been able to tackle one recipe in this book, the basic sugar cookie. Now, this wouldn't have been my first choice simply because many of the other recipes were much more appealing, but this was the only recipe for which I had all the ingredients on hand, so I went for it. I have rather mediocre track record when it comes to sugar cookies, so I was really impressed with the way these turned out. Refrigerating/freezing the dough not just once, but three times, really does make a difference, even if you're tempted to be impatient and skip those steps.

    I will say that several of the recipes might be a little complicated for those unfamiliar with baking, and a few were downright overwhelming in the number of steps. Still, if the finished product looks (and tastes!) as good as those in the pictures, they seem pretty worth it :)

    Anyway, this book was fun and filled with imaginative, appealing (and girly!) recipes that I know I'll be using in the future. I was unfamiliar with the author before this book, but her treats are so adorable that I think I'm going to start stalking her blog...
